Default Tech De-Bug Spray

Yesterday I cleaned my bike and sprayed the fairing and headlamps with Tech De-Bug cleaner

then left it for 10-15 mins. Shortly afterwards the top edge of both headlamps looks like frosted glass and is actually cracked in places. They were both fine prior to me using the stuff.

Have been up to St Helens this morning to have the bike looked at and they feel that it`s got something to do with the spray. I`m gonna write to the company but would advise peeps not to use this product.

The bike shop won`t say whether it`s gonna get worse and if it`ll ultimately hold. My only option right now is to buy two new headlamps

Is there anything in the small print on the bottle about not using it on plastic or testing it on a small area first ?

Sounds pretty grim, hope it doesnt mess up the GMII for you

Any pics of the headlights? When you get round to swapping the lights (if necessary) reapply the same stuff all over the old ones and see if it gets worse ( take before and after pictures) if it does you've got a definite claim against the manufacturers for your repair bills, if not you still may.
Unless it's highly acidic or a chemical reaction caused it to get really hot I just can't see how it cracked your headlight although there seems like no other cause for frosting round the edges, not like a stone chip (or series of) could do it. Sounds bad!

I read the instructions fully Fizz and have re read them and it says nothing about not using on plastic or having to wash it off quickly. I think if it was just one headlamp affected i`d give the stuff the benefit of the doubt but it`s bizarre that both headlamps have reacted. The bike shop said they`ve not seen damage like this before.

Thats a good idea Dave, i`ll keep hold of the stuff and do as you suggest

Cool, I'm sure half the .org will jump at the chance to um and arr over your bike up in scotland
Does indeed sound like this stuff's to blame and what with no warnings on the packet/in instructions you may have them by the bollswocks. Just gotta find a way of proving it now, failing that... blag it.
wonder if it's happened to many others.

Oops.
I know Muc Off stuff your only supposed to leave on for a very short amount of time.
I would double check the bottle as if it's left on it says it can damage paint work etc
It's a shame is that tho, sorry mate

gawd, I can see that. Should be ok for the GM though, its not right over the lights.
The cracks don't appear to have gone right through, just on surface.
If its any consolation one of mine has a big scuff over it, from when I dropped it years ago, and it looks like frosted glass

Perhaps it may have done something because of how hot it was yesterday. They do say not to polish bike in full sun etc, so perhaps the heat made it react?

Cool, you'd be surprised at the number of people that dont. There was a girl on the cycling forum that I'm on that sprayed muc off on her carbon fibre push bike frame and then left it on there for 15 minutes or so till it had dried and then complained that the muc off took the surface lacquer / shine off the frame.

She was really upset, and was gonig to complain to muc off about it until somebody pointed out to her that you're only supposed to leave it for a few minutes and then wash it off and it does state that on the bottle.

If theres no warnings like that I'd think you have a reasonable case for compensation.

Your lights dont look that bad, but its hard to tell from the photos.

I'd be taking a roll of gaffa tape / insulating tape with me on your trip and sticking it over the cracked bits or in case it decides to get worse, you can always tape it up then to hold it in place if it does...
