Default Expired passport advice required

My 5 year old daughter's passport will expire in February 2010.

We're taking a trip down south before the expiry date, but will return after the expiry date.

Will she be OK to travel on an expired passport?

Does the passport need to be valid for future trips?

My argument is that as long as she can prove her date of birth with photo ID, she's OK, but is that right?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Wait, you're travelling only within the UK you mean? If so, then of course!

You can technically fly to Ireland without a passport but decent ID from Englanshire so i'm sure you wont need a passport to get back into Scotland.

Yes, a return flight to an English city. She's a bit young for driving licence ID!!!

i'm pretty sure that if you are using a passport it has to be valid for both legs of the journey and have a bit of extra time left on it in case of delays. but i may be wrong.

if its expired then it isnt a valid form of ID, simples. They may be leniant at the airport but if you get the typical Easyjet response it will be a no.

Check with the airline (get it in writting if poss), they can refuse to take her and you may find some airlines will no longer accept driving licences as a form of ID, even for domestic flights

To use a passport it must have 6 mths 'life' left. If you want to use it within 6 mths of the expiry date you must have either its replacement, or for internal flights another form of ID.

I've just had to get a new passport for my son. Although it doesn't expire until March, we are flying out to Cyprus at the end of Jan until Feb. There must be at least three months prior to the Passport expiring for him to be able to travel. I reckon it will be the same for using domestic flights, just to annoy you.
