Evening all,
I'm looking for some advice from the technically minded. I'd like to build a touchscreen jukebox setup that's easy to use (just like a pub jukebox). There seem to be plenty of shareware applications around that will provide the right sort of functionality but I'm trying to figure out what hardware I need. Some of the requirements / possible options that I've thought of so far: - I'd like to have it mounted on a stand or something so I can just prod the screen to add another song to the playlist - But it'd also be good if I the screen is portable so that I can sit on the sofa and pick songs if I want to. - So this presumably rules out standard touchscreen desktop PCs as they won't have an inbuilt battery? - I'd like it to be more or less 'instant-on' so I don't have to wait for a long Windows style boot sequence - Is some kind of tablet PC with wireless NAS/Media Streaming device an option? - There are a number of Android based tablet machines on ebay, but these seem to have quite small screens (about 7 inches which doesn't seem big enough) - Don't want to spend a fortune - a few hundred quid or so Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Cheers

My sister recently bought a touchscreen laptop where the screen could be rotated so it could be used like a tablet PC. Providing you're only putting something like 100Gb of music on it that could be a good option. They have wireless built in and audio streaming isn't dreadfully CPU intensive.
If you've got much more than 100Gb I'd suggest adding a 1Tb storage box on your wireless network. Keith. Last edited by keith_d; 23-08-10 at 09:15 PM. |

My mate has a similar system however, his screen is fixed. I think for the money you are willing to outlay, a fixed screen will be the answer.
My 1st thought would be an iPad to control the system Or a Logitech Squeezebox system |

There are quite a few ready-made solutions.
http://www.sonos.com/ is apparently good. If you have your music in itunes, you can buy a airport express unit, and play your music from that on a hifi. You can use multiple airports too so have the same music playing in more than one room. Additionally to that, if you have an ipod touch/iphone you can use the remote application to control it all over wifi. |
