Default Sponsorship on forums.

Open for random discussion.

I peruse a few forums, several of them have "site sponsors", I won't mention any names but one of them has a rip off merchant peddling his wares and any criticism gets removed, and the criticisers banned. Another one of the blue and white persuasion has their sponsors who sell high quality parts, though any argument about whether someone actually needs to purchase them... is deleted, any questioning about whether the sellers actually know what the hell they're talking about... is deleted.

I have no idea of the running costs of a forum, but it seems to be a proof of the internet phenomenon that hiding behind a keyboard produces some weapons grade idiots, especially when money is involved.

One thing I think we should copy from them is get a suzuki site sponsor that can give us discounts.
We already managed to get discounts on Kriega stuff. (Thanks Andy Brad)

And getting discounts on track days is pretty easy as long as there are more than about five people booking on.

As far as iīm aware we havenīt really tried to get any other discounts anywhere else...?

For the most part it's pretty good here. The problem comes when you get the odd sponsor who's a bloody idiot and a site admin not prepared to stand up to them.

Hmmm, difficult one to answer. If the sponsor has paid money to advertise on a site then it would be fairly obvious they wouldn't want to see any negativity towards them on said site.

At the expense of free speech of the site members?

IMO, you* pay money to advertise, not pay for carte blanche to rip people off without fear of criticism.

[edit] *for fear of misunderstanding... that is in no way aimed at amanda or any hein gericke relation... general comment

LOL but to answer I agree. Forum advertising is a dangerous area either paid or unpaid.
