Hi,
My front brake is sticking as I'm pressing the lever. If I need to brake harder than the amount of pressure being exerted before sticking, then it jolts past the 'stick point' and slams on. My initial intention was to simply clean the pistons. However, I have been told to expect a mess of corrosion and the need to replace the rubber boots for the sliding pins and a new pad retaining pin at a minimum. The bike is 9 years old, I have no idea how well the previous owner cared for it so I'm thinking a caliper service kit wouldn't be such a bad idea. Any advice? |

service them all, piece of pi$$, soak pins in peni fluid overnight though, have spare pins on hand if you need your bike asap, buy from wemoto for value for money

Oh dear God I just googled that phrase too. That's only gonna make your sticky brakes worse.

I'd give them a good inspection first to find out what looks like it'll need replacing, if it's been seriously neglected it could need new pistons as well as pins and seals, or alternately it could just need a decent clean and bit of RRG, without looking who knows, what's the point in buying stuff you don't need
![]() If you don't know what you're looking at, then ask someone local to have a look for you could save you a few bob, but it does sound like they need attention sooner rather than later. Cheers Mark. Cheers Mark.

The bike is going for its MOT next month, with which I will also be getting a new chain and sprocket set. I don't really want to add brake maintenance to the bill, especially when I could be doing it my self and learning something. |

well get yourself up to Soho tomorrow evening, I'll throw a 14mm socket and ratchet in my bag, it's only a ten minute job to inspect them, so at least you know what you're letting yourself in for.
Cheers Mark.

A note to add.. my bike is my only means of transport (other than the dreaded TFL). So I don't really want to get half way through and find out I have to stop and order parts.
As I don't mind replacing the lot (I would like to get the brakes right first time) would this be what I'm after? http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Suzuki/S...aliper_-_Front |
