question for the ladies.....

my lady is in need of some bright red hair dye. when i say bright red, i mean BRIGHT RED! not orange or pink though.

she has tried swartscoff or whatever its called to no avail and just tried some really bright semi permanent stuff but it washed out in one wash.

any info??

In order to get it bright red, it's best to bleach it first. You then need to get some properly good stuff, store bought stuff often runs and also won't produce the proper vivid redness I think she's after (see picture below). In my wild youth I had my hair bright red like that, I got the stuff from a goth chick boot store in Cardiff that also sold accessories for said girls including hair dyes in every colour of the rainbow.

I'm positive I still have a pot of the stuff left so I'll go and see who makes it when I get home.

I have had green, blue, red and pink hair in my time (yes, one time it was all at once too!). But then I have also had it bleached white, shaved, styled and so long it was down to my bum!

I have used the semi permanent dyes from the Goth shops too and bleaching first is essential. The only time I have had red dye that has lasted though was when it came from the hair dresser, even then it was only a few weeks. Try a hair dresser supplies shop as opposed to the cheap dyes in Boots!

By the way, if you have to ask why she wants red hair, you are too old to talk to!

I have their 'Directions' stuff. They have a stockist list, have a look. Be wary of going to a hairdressers as they might charge over the odds, I was quoted £65 to have it done 'professionally'.

Make sure you slap a LOT of it on, regardless of colour, to ensure you get good coverage, no patches or areas where there's not a lot of coverage.

I had it royal blue a bit later on, the second time I had it done we were low on the stuff and so I didn't get enough on my hair... it faded and went almost back to the bleach blonde in places so I had to go buy some black dye from Boots to cover it until it grew out

Head hair, Chest hair or Pubic region?

Each require a different balance of blending, colouring agents and exposure to the dye.

If you post pictures of the different hair regions I will advise accordingly.

Cheat hair? Considering the thread is call 'one for the ladies'...

I have never pre bleached my hair to go red. I do however dye my hair blonde rather often, and due to the nature of the hair dye containing amonia and such it is not necessary to bleach before going another colour. Being blonde, but dyed, I pre stained my hair with a watered down red pigment.

The op should really say what colour his missus natural colour is or wether she uses any other colour.

I have dyed my hair bright red several times over a month with permanent colour, and have successfully gone back to blonde within one careful procedure, the particular product for reversing any colour such as red is regularly available from Sainsbury.....believe it or not, it can even reverse black....I kid you not! it does not turn your hair to chewing gum.....and I have the finest hair, and very brittle.

This is what happens when you use a red pigment, then dye it bright red with something bought from a hairdressers wholesalers....on blonde run of the mill shop bought dye. YOu will not get a decent red shop bought, unless you buy something alternative such as 'directions'. I did try to use a shop bought dye, but with lesser result, plus, dependant on the nature of your hair in the first place, red is rather hard to keep keyed to your hair, besides getting rid of.








I am lucky that a close friend is a hairdresser, so I've got good professional back up, and advice. I've done rather a lot of things to my hair over the years, safely, and can confidently foil streaks of varying colours, or full head without it falling out or going green! Even learned the art of hair extensions myself in a funny phase.

This has never been bleached.



I suggest the OP gets that professional advice before turning her hair green by accident!
