Evening all
Been looking to buy a slip on exhaust for my new SV (will put photos up when the sun shines long enough to take some). Got some on watch on feebay and more promisingly waiting to here back from one of the guys on here. I was wondering what the deal is with needing a link pipe is though? I understand where you're supposed to cut the heat shield and pipe roughly from photos people have posted on here and the american site describing it (a couple of inches above weld) so link pipe is needed for the angle. My main question is, is it possible to cut through the heat shield at a higher point where it has 'straightened' ie after the angle so i can just 'slip-on' a new 52mm end can rather than having to source a new link pipe which appears to be difficult and costly (makes buying second hand pointless). Or would it not mount properly? Cheers in advance |

It depends what brand of pipe it is. Fuel sell the link pipes and I'm pretty sure the others do too. The Fuel people said to cut 50mm up from the weld, but I cut 60mm and just missed the honeycomb of the cat inside. The link pipe is needed as it will correctly line up the pipe, plus you can't really join a 52mm to a 52mm pipe. The link pipe is slightly bigger at it's ends to slip over both bits then clamped up.

This is where I cut mine
![]() Very nerve racking moment. As I see it you do need the link pipe. But then I'm no mechanic. I got mines supplied with my new shiny scorpion exhaust. |

+1 on the above pic ... Exactly where it should be cut for the link pipe to slide over and give yourself enough piping incase you want to trim it down a bit

Just put a scorpion on mine. It said 65 mm. Well away from the cat. Fits nice. Looks great.

Had a look at a Mivv exhaust, they provide the link pipes so that you don't have to make any cuts to the OE exhaust system, anyone used them?

It won't be link pipe then, it will be a full system. The original can is welded on/ a single piece. To fit almost every aftermarket exhaust pipe that comes with a link pipe, you will need to cut the original.

![]() Fitted my Mivv oval a few months ago. I was a bit sceptical about the quality of the system as it costs the same as many end cans but the quality is excellent. It was easy to fit and obviously no cutting, hardest part was removing the original exhaust bolts. |

I'll second the quality of the Mivv pipes, not an SV, but they actually make the OEM on the Aprilia, the race pipes are road legal (with the baffles fitted) and the finish has help up very well for the last year of use .
