Default headlight / parking lights - UPDATE

As I left work today I noticed that when I turned on the ignition the parking lights came on instead of the headlights and remain that way now. If I switch on high beam the headlights come on, dip them, back to parking lights. Other than this, all the electrics are fine.

The bike is a K3.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem may be?

Thanks
Luke

try looking at fuse no.2 a 10amp one, and checking the orange wire from the ignition switch is getting power.

I have checked the fuses and the bulbs, and all is well there - will have a look at the ignition switch.

Sorry, I meant to add this last night, but my laptop ran out of battery.

The H4 bulb is a dual fillament bulb... the headlight part of it could have been damaged, but the full beam migth be fine.

Look at it closely - it should be obvious.

The low beam filament looked a little bent compared to the high beam, though didn't looked broken - more to do with the manufacture. I'm going to see if I can test it out of the system to see if it works.

Buy a new one, nothing wrong with having a spare and then you can be sure.
I would also say the low beam filament on the bulb has gone.

If you ever flash a one headlight car, don't you get 2 working high beams in return?

The theories are sound only both headlights aren't working, not just 1. So unless one went and the extra load on the circuit took out the other, it may be something else. Will see if I can test one directly to rule this out/solve it!

UPDATE:

Okay, now I'm really stumped.

At the bulb connector, I get no reading for the low beam. At the fuse box, I get no reading for the low beam, though at the switchgear I get a reading. I guess that means that there is something screwy with the wiring between the switchgear and the fuse box.

Thing is to me, this seems like a very odd thing to suddenly fail - Could it be related to the heatwave over the past week or so?

Anyway, I'm not particulary wiring savvy so I think I'm going to have to take it somewhere. Can anyone recommend a garage in the cental/North London area?

Thanks for all your responses
Luke

Check the wiring around the headstock.... something could have chaffed etc.
