Default Triumph sprint rs

Hi ,

Looking for next bike , considering a Triumph Sprint RS.

never owned a Triumph before any one owned a RS / any experience ?

Have ridden a sprint sport think it was a 97 model , great engine however was a tad top heavy , I'm guessing the later sprints are better ?

Cheers

I've not owned an RS but had one as a courtesy bike when my ST was being serviced; it was a little tired but a lot of fun. The 955 tripple is a smashing engine give it a ride and see how you like it.

I had one. Totally different engine to the earlier Sprint.

Mine was the first 100bhp one but that was gutless and they bought it out with a 110 bhp engine which was better. However I was disappointed with many aspects of the bike. No luggage capacity as standard. Fairing looks like an aftermarket one. Can't have the clock and trip at the same time IIRC. Seat wasn't great. And it needed a new wiring loom and a coil failed. All on a new bike and within 6 months.

Good points were the brakes, braided hoses as standard, and the noise.

Sat on my mates triuph trident once, similar to the sprint if I remember....its the only bike I could not get my feet flat on the floor with. Triumphs seem a little tall compared to most

Yeah the first Kwak similar engined ones were but the Sprint RS uses a beam frame DB, so is a low as most 600's are.

the sprint sport I took out was a big bugger , I'm 6ft & 16 stone and it fitted me well .

Am a bit concerned about Petes comments as he knows his bikes .

other maybe is a bmw r1100s however can't afford the extra costs of the bm.

trouble is with the sv it struggles with me & a pillion ( 26 + stone)

Cheers Steve

That was a long time ago Steve, so my memory may be addled

However the Sprint Sport was the earlier generation bike before the beam framed new Triumph engined bike that I had.

This is the type of Trumpet you tried. My old Daytona 1200

TBH the RS is too small a bike for you and your pillion IMO. That was what I meant about the seat. It's not very big. Certainly not touring.

If you want my views on the R1100S beemer, I traded one in for the Sprint.

Much as it pains me, have you considered a Falco? That was the bike I traded in the Sprint for and was the best of the bunch by far.

Have not rode a falco , rode a firestorm however could not afford the fuel .

Really looking at something more tourer than sports & the falco is a bit more committed than I was looking at . also need good mpg

cheers Steve

Ok Steve, the Falco and Sprint were pretty much the same fuelwise. The Beemer a bit better. Incidentally I get the same mpg out of the Duke as the Sv give or take.

And all of this is just my opinion. Could be talking out of my ar$e.
