Default Bridgestone BT020 or Met. Roadtec Z6

Hey People,

New tyre going on the back of the bike this week and wanted some opinions..

I know general opinion is Z6 over the BT020 - but...

Is the diff worth the extra 30 euros it's going to cost me? z6 Approx 180, Bt020 approx 150. Are the bridgestones any good? If there is any improvement in grip then I'll spend the cash. Just wondering before I phone the order through...

Or Pilot Sport ro Pilot road at the same price as the BT020...

BTW Front has BT010, but that will be replaced within 12 months probably...

Thanks in advance...

Stu

Stu,

I would check those prices... the Z6 should be much cheaper than the BT's!

I'm on a set of BT020's at the moment, and yes they are a fantastic tyre. But, my next set will be some Z6's. Why? Well, it's worth a change, I've heard some really good feedback about them, they're much cheaper than the BT's, and should last longer as well.

Prices in Holland rarely reflect any kind of reality when it comes to bikes or cars

E.g. I got my 2000 SVS 'cheap' at 5000 euros (approx 3600) I think I could have got a newer one in the UK for that money couldn't I?

Well with that in mind:

The BT020's are an excellent tyre, however, despite the harder compound that goes through the middle of the tyre, they square off easily. The people in the know put this down to the steel banding that Bridgestone now use, instead of the kevlar banding that they used to use.

The Z6's may be costing you a little more, but they'll probably last much longer. They've a harder compound than the 020's, but this was developed for use with the steel banding (unlike the 020's). The banding allows the tyre to heat up quickly. They should maintain their profile better than the 020's, while still giving good performance to the edge of the tyre.

The Z6's profile is a little sharper than the 020's... ultimately meaning it'll drop into corners a bit faster. I don't think you'll go wrong by trying a set.

Understand that the 010/020's, as tyre technology goes, is on its last legs. They are an excellent tyre, but everyone prefered the cheaper tyres, an in an effort to compete, Bridgestone dropped the kevlar structure for a steel one, without really addressing the overall design and compound selection.

Or so says Essential Rubber.

Thanks for that. Very informative. I'll give the guy a call and see if he has any in stock...

I'll write a review comparing the Z4 rear that's worn out with the Z6 going on in the tyre section. Cheers.

Just realised... I'll give the guy a call tomorrow - bike shops don't open on Mondays as they are open on Saturdays (work that one out...).

Wow - much cheaper than I can get them in Holland - but I think the cost of transportation to Holland, and then the cost of fitting would be a bit prohibitive Thanks anyway - much appriciated.

Heh, back on good terms with the Alvins boiys then are we Drew?

Simple rule of thumb... When faced with two similiar tyres, generally buy the newest design. Doesn't always work (lots of people prefer 010s to 014s) but generally it's a good way to operate.
