Hi all,
well, picked up the girlfriends SV last nice. Nice Cherry red, 2001 Y reg curvey. Seems very well looked after, only 5000 miles, new tyres brake pads service etc etc, well please - and more improtnatly so is the girlfirend. Anyway, not knowing a great deal about the SV I have some questions.:- 1) its been lowered with long/shorter dog bones at the back, and also dropped through the yoke at the front. The g/f feels comfortable on it - does it being lowered make THAT much difference to a newbie biker? 2) It still has its standard exhaust, which is in pretty good nick, however there is a small hole on the silencer right at the swing arm, so its leaaving a sooty deposit there. My old bike had a "weep" hole at the bottom of the silencer. Is this a "weep" hole, or is the can knackered? I cant see and feel the hole and the soot!! 3) On the dash there are two holes bottom left bottom right) These dont seem to connect to anything, Ive seen a few other SV's on the street etc and they dont have fixings in them either - its this typical and why? Or am I missing some bolts? Thanks for reading, hope you can fill me in ! ps - Rode the SV home, its an awesome bike ! |

The holes in the dash are for adjusting the head lights.
The lowered bike will give her more confidence by beeing able to get both of her feet flat on the floor. Not sure on the Exsaust but fit a after market can and release the Vtwin growel ![]() |

AH - thats what those holes are for !! makes sense now !!!
She does fell much more confident with the lowered SV, but I also have a lowered seat, which she feel fine one when on a standrad height one. Just wondering if its a bad idea o be lowered or not. To be honest, the standard exhaust sounds ok. We borrowed an SV which hasd a race can on it, bloody thing shook the house !!! Think ,if its not knackere will stick with standard ......... can someone check their standard pipe? |

My Sv has a hole at the bottom of the can as well. I thought i just had a hole in it!! Nice to know im not the only one.
A lowered bike will handle slightly different to a std sv. However when your new, you dont know any different. If she suffers from short leg syndrome, then leave it be, as said it will inspire confidence. |

If the hole was on the UNDERSIDE of the can I wouldnt be bothered, the fact its on the side worries me.......... and its sooting up the swing arm a bit !!
