My Bargain Viper Can.
I looked at my CCC can today and it had split on the bottom seam so time for a replacement rapidly (the CCC is going on the bandit 400 after a bodge repair with fibreglass). I called a local motorcycle breakers who had a collection of cans with the correct size collar and the one i chose was a Viper race oval from a cbr600 for the bargain price of £25! It needs stripping to bare alloy and polishing and will need a chop down as its far too long (6 inches beyond the numberplate on high level pipework) but i thought it was a superb deal.
Fitted it in standard form and the grunt low down seems so much more with no spluttering and it sounds superb, all in all very pleased with it. I will post some before and after photos tomorrow after its shortened and polished! |

Re: My Bargain Viper Can.
Chop where you want to, and rivett all back up its pretty easy really. Mine really needs to be tidied up, it is a mess.

Re: My Bargain Viper Can.
ive seen this on a different forum might be of use...
"i did my carbon fibre scorpion about a week ago. it was really easy. 1. drill out the rivets from the end and remove the band around the end. 2. pull off the end cap 3. cut the wadding inside to size 4. cut the pipe that runs through the middle 5. put it back together and re-rivet the end strap back on. seriously it is easy but be sure to take your time for a good finish." AND "It's easy to do but beware some cans (like my old 'busa akro) have a tapered inner perforated tube so cutting it down means you'll have some work to do at there to make it fit. If you have a 4.5" or 5" grinder, my suggestion is to get hold of a 'razor thin' cutting disc for it. These are 2mm thick and made for cutting stainless steel. They give an excellent cut with no burr and no heat-buildup. Great for cutting most things." HTH... i must admit im tempted now |

Re: My Bargain Viper Can.
Easiest way is to lob through the whole thing with a chop saw. I have one in the shed if anyone wants to use it.
Grinder and stuff takes ages and you have to be precise, chop saw takes 30 seconds and cuts inner tube to exact length for you too
