Tyres past their best?
I have a set of pilot power 2ct's on my bike at the moment. They have done 3 trackdays but only 1000km so tread is still pretty good. However the bike has been sat unused for the past 6 months and they now display and lot of blueing around 2inches from the edge and fell kind of plasticy?
Are they beyond their best? Would you swap them out or keep them until the tread is more worn? I'm favouring a change, but thought I'd consult the .org

Re: Tyres past their best?
I'd give them a good hard ride or two and see how they clean up/feel after that. But then I'm a tight ar.....

Re: Tyres past their best?
Yea what Tim said, 6 months shouldnt be long enough for a tyre to go off like that tbh! They probably just need a few heat cycles to free them up a little. Just go stready starting out, just incase they are past the best.

Re: Tyres past their best?
Should be fine.
My friend had some Avon Azaro's fitted and they turned blue on the outside edges. As soon as he went out it went and the handling was not really affected. |

Re: Tyres past their best?
Bear in mind it's not just the distance, but been through 3 trackdays.
I'll try and give them a good run and see what I think. At the moment commuting to work with a max of 50kmh isn't doing much! L

Re: Tyres past their best?
They're hypersports tyres they should take trackdays no problem. A tyre will sit for AT LEAST 3 years without any damage to the tyre itself so long there's no weight on the tyre (IE on paddock stands), or if you rotate the tyre so it's not sat on the same bit, and as long as pressures are maintained.
