Question Career change maybe

After working in IT for way too many years thinking of a change of career .

My initial thoughts are to train as a male nurse and study for a nursing diploma , or work as a care worker and study NVQ's

Any one got any experience , suggestions ?

Cheers Steve

yep, leave it 15-18 months, then look to change

not much help i appreciate, but the way the world is right now you'd be last in first out if you joined up somewhere who subsequently struggled financially

I think out of the 2 options i`d say train as a male nurse and either do the 3 year course resulting in a diploma or the 4 year course resulting in a degree.

Downside is that you`d be on a bursary which isn`t a great amount. If you`re supporting a family or even just looking after yourself it can be a struggle. Having said that I did it as a single parent and paid my bills, mortgage etc.... was tough tho. Upside is that if you find yourself in an area of nursing you really enjoy you`ll have a very rewarding career. Good luck

No, blokes don't look right in starched white aprons and black stockings......

Damm, must get the nurse image in my head brought up to date. thinks scrubber, no scrubs.

No , when I want/need a nurse. It must be of the female variety. Strange I don't mind the idea of a female nurse. but the thought of a male one scares the bejusus out of me. I wonder if women think the opposite?.

As for training. Do the degree if you can. otherwise you will only find yourself doing a conversion in a couple of years anyway. whatever you decide to do. Remember there is no decent money to be earned, stupid hours, crap conditions. bullying staff etc.

My daughter walked out on her nurse training when one ward expected her as a student to work Christmas day, boxing day, new years eve, new years day. She doesn't get paid, supernumery etc. but no the bully ward manager said it was part of the job, get used to it.

Thanks for yor comments .

Might be a mid life crisis I'm 38 worked in IT for twenty years and really do not get anything out of the job .

As I work at a local council should be a fairly safe job , after Job evalutaion got a 10 percent paycut but there is payment protection for 2 years , the money cut is not the reason I want to change job , its just the lack of job satisfaction.

Just don't want to be doing the same thing in 2 years time .... It will be take a brave move to change career ! However regret is not something I want ..

Trouble is as things are I guess I am lucky still to be in a job ?

Cheers Steve
