Default Rev counter fault

Good day all,

My rev counter has been misbehaving lately, occasionally, at any speed, the needle would start to jump/dance around when engine gets up to 5k-6k revs, jumping to 9k then down again, usual on 2-4 gears.

The engine itself and power delivery feels normal, no surge of power etc, so am guessing something is faulty with the rev counter, but then it only happen occasionally!

Any ideas

Cheers

Check your wiring inside the left hand side fairing upper, it's not unknown for it to corrode on the connectors in therre.

Rev counter playing about can be an early indication that the alternator is on the way out too.

Watch out for the speedo dancing the next time the rev counter goes haywire.

There's loads of info on checking the charging circuit on here.

Had this prob with mine when I replaced the Reg/rec, keep an eye on things, dont do any long distances unless you have someone who can bump start you.

Got the alternator checked a few months back and was ok, will keep a watchful eye on the speedo too.

I know what I'll be reading tonight!

Nope, it righted itself, but sometimes i would have my music on and see the rev counter on top notch, then knock off, make me chuckle when I used to see it.

Yep, also check battery connections- both times I've had this it's been because I stupidly didn't do them up tight while messing about with things.

Check your low tension wiring to the coils too. Corrosion or loose connection here will give you this problem too.

How strange, haven't done anything in terms of fixing it but in the pass few days the rev counter seems to have righted itself!

Now I can concentrate on the road

Thanks again for everyone's tips and info
