Hello,
I will be picking up a SV650s very soon and it will need the cam chain tensioners doing. Which ones should I buy? Does it even matter as long as they are meant for mk1 SV. Will these do? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163551597941 Last edited by guffers_hump; 22-10-21 at 08:23 AM. |

The previous owner of the bike says that they need doing. I am going to buy the Tensioners and he is going to do them as I am getting the bike for free.

K3 ones go straight on and are roughly 10000000000000% up on the originals. You'll need the gaskets as well.

I got mixed up its a 1999 model not a 2000.
Is this the correct one then. It says its K3. I assumed all the carb models were the same. https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts...2811-17G01-000 |

the K3 tensioner is a direct swap for the older ones which are known to jam. its rare though that they do jam and if the engine is noisy then i would also look elsewhere. i suppose if the bike is free then no harm doing the job.
SV's do not like low oil levels and is the number one engine killer on these bikes so keep an eye on the oil level. also if you overfill with oil the gearbox tends to give a lot of false neutrals and difficult gear changes. |

I've bought the K3 ones.
I'll keep an eye on oil level when I have the bike. The previous owner has had the bike for 15 years at least. Has also been riding and fixing bikes since the 70's. So fingers crossed he knows what he is doing. ![]() Thanks for the help. |
