THOUSANDS of households across north east Wales are being warned to boil their drinking water after bacteria was found in supplies.
Welsh Water has issued an emergency notice to residents in parts of Denbighshire and Flintshire who get their supply from Alwen water treatment works, after detecting the bacteria coliform. Housholders are being advised to boil all water before drinking or using it for food preparation 'until further notice'. Coliform is a common bacterial indicator of the sanitary quality of food or water. They themselves are not the cause of sickness, but their presence is used to indicate that other bacteria may be present. In a statement released on its website, Welsh Water said: "We do not yet know the source of the bacteria we have detected from our routine water quality monitoring programme, and detailed investigations are under way. "Once we know what has caused this problem, we do whatever is required to deal with it and will let our customers know." So far, there is no evidence that anyone has become ill as a result of drinking contaminated water and the National Public Health Service for Wales has been informed. In total, more than 70,000 households across Flintshire and Denbighshire have been affected. Areas affected Afonwen, Babell, Bagillt, Bodfari, Betws Gwerfil Goch, Bryn Eglwys, Brynford, Bryn y Ball, Buckley; Cadole, Caerwys, Carmel, Cefn Meiriadog, Cilcain, Clawddnewydd, Clocaenog, Corwen, Cynwyd, Denbigh, Derwen, Derwydd, Efenechtyd, Eryrys, Ewloe, Flint, Fynnongroyw; Glyndyfrdwy, Graigfechan, Greenfield, Gronant, Gwernaffield, Gwernymynnydd, Gwespyr, Gwyddelwern, Halkyn, Henllan, Holywell; Lixwm Llanarmon-yn-Ial, Llanasa, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Llandegla, Llandrillo, Llandyrnog, Llanefydd, Llanelidan, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanferres, Llanfihangel Glyn Myrfyr, Llanfwrog, Llangwyfan, Llanrhaeadr, Llansannan; Melin-y-wig, Mold Town, Mostyn, Myndd Isa, Nanerch, Nercwys, Northop, Oakenholt, Pantymwyn, Pentrecelyn, Pentrellyncymmer, Pwllglas, Rhes-y-cae, Rhosesmor, Rhydymwyn, Ruthin, Sychdyn, Talacre, Trelawnyd, Upper Connah's Quay, Whitford, Ysciefiog. It IS STILL a genuine thing. A right PITA I can tell you, even have to remember to use boiled water for brushing my teeth. My mate is going rough camping this weekend and needs to take water with him, so is boiling 5 gallons of water to fill his carrier. Supermarkets are out of bottled water, folks panicking!

Yes in a different area of N. Wales, supplied by a different reservoir. In that case the bug was criptosporidium. The present problem is colliform bacteria.
I'm even boiling water for the dog! |

It happened hear cos someone dumped a dead cow in the reservoir. I went and took a picture of the side of the reservoir that water is taken from and then a picture of the other side. Was a funny thing to see.

So posts two, to six were on topic? They still seem to be there?
If you are going to edit content on the site, shouldnt you have some consistency Mike? Am I wasting my time posting this one? I mean, is this off topic too? maybe nobody will get to read this either? I read with interest the topic regarding different groups forming within the forum. Whilst I quite agree with the concept of not straying off subject, I dont believe the odd one line joke (still health related) has a detrimental effect to the thread. Mind you, i do have a sense of humour. I await with interest to see if this post stays. if not, should I post it in idle banter as suggested for some of the other disgruntled members to read? |
