Default Winter bike - what would you choose

Given a budget of about £1500 (maybe a touch more), what would you spend your money on for a good winter hack?

Id love to get a trailie but they seem to hold their value. Would be great to use all year round for a little green-laning too!

Something knackered but working! Shove the green laning, you know you won't bother when it's minus 6 and chucking it down!

Honda NTV650?
Honda Transalp?
Honda CRM250?

As long as it's a Honda, it shouldn't break down!

A lot depends on the sort of miles you're doing, but if it were me I'd go for something with a big fairing to protect against all that nasty rain and snow.
