Default How easy would it be to respray a fuel tank?

My tank cover on the cbr is showing signs of wear despite me putting a tank pad on etc. So I was thinking of getting a spare one to replace it with when the time comes.

I have found one and it is cheap as chips, but it is the wrong colour. Would it be easy enough for me to get it prepared and sprayed by somebody to match my bike?

If so what do you reckon on the costs of spraying it gloss black?

Cheers,
Kev

Pretty easy to do with a little practice and the right equipment.

Depends on what level finish you are after. As good as the original, you are probably looking at around £80 for a spray shop to do it.

It's extremely easy just ring a sprayer, probably cost you about £60.
I'm getting tempted to respray my bike my self, have all the paint and equipment (bar an air fed mask) - hmmm.

What kind of paint? I thought for the best paint - you need a full suit - but maybe wrong and that could be substituted for simply full covering with clothes lol.

May as well just get it sprayed somewhere....£60/80, it's not much.

****e! Sorry I somehow missed the tank 'cover' I thought you meant the tank. sorry.
Something like plasticote or another ahrdwearing vinyl rattle can paint should do the job, you could do that your self.

Sorry about the dozeyness.

Oh yeah, he said tank cover....but it's got a tank pad? That doesn't sound like the plastic cover? Sounds like the actual tank?

Anyways...I know what you mean about the paint but I've never found them to be hardwearing....I did my hugger recently with rattle cans and I used many coats of paint & many of lacquer on top too. It's just not hard wearing, it's so delicate. I'd say it's doable on stuff you don't touch much (hugger - just about got away with it) but on a tank, where the legs/etc would be up against it, I think the paint's just gonna come off...

On the plus side I know how to get a great finish on rattle can stuff, after many a year of trying. Maybe a cheaper way would be to paint with rattle cans and finish, and then get it lacquered only by a pro...
