SV650 Front Wheel Jack
I was wondering how I was going to jack the front wheel of my SV650, and had ordered a front wheel paddock stand. Whilst waiting for the stand to arrive today (it didn't come until 3 PM) I thought I'd try something else.
I noticed there is a hole running right through the sump, which is obviously supposed to be there but seems to have no purpose. I found a piece of M10 threaded bar and a couple of nuts that fitted (I suppose about 9" long). Then I found some steel off-cuts in my scrap box, and in about 20 minutes knocked up this to fit on a hydraulic bike lift: The welding is a bit rough (I'd run out of gas for the MIG so I had to use an ancient arc machine), but it worked surprisingly well: It was very stable ... I had the brakes fitted by the time the DPD guy showed up with the paddock stand. Anyone want to buy an unused front paddock stand? Last edited by Othen; 13-02-19 at 06:12 AM. |

Re: SV650 Front Wheel Jack
Well, I could have just waited for the front paddock stand to arrive, but I think this is actually a better solution for what I was doing. I’ll certainly hang on to the bracket in case I need to do something similar again (I might even tidy it up a bit with some better welds when I get some more argon). The front wheel paddock stand will probably be useful as well, 3 of my 4 bikes have no centre stand.

Re: SV650 Front Wheel Jack
Your oil coolant hose looks just like mine did before it leaked everywhere.
Longer one, where the stupid black plastic rot your hose bit is. Hopefully it's wet because you have wiped it and not that it's already leaking. |

Re: SV650 Front Wheel Jack
I tried the same with some wood and some L brackets, which were far too soft. It didn't end quite as disastrously as it could have!

The bottom of the engine would have been wet because I'd just sprayed it with mountain bike cleaner (which seems to work quite well), I can't find any evidence of oil leaks. Do you think the hoses are a concern though? Your view would be appreciated. Alan |

Re: SV650 Front Wheel Jack
Sorry no idea, that black bit is a known spot for that hose to fail. Like you I asked the question on here when I discovered a leak. ophic - I think - pointed me at the right place to look.
I didn't get Suzuki ones to replace it though - second hand ones always looked rougher than the ones I wanted to replace. And new ones are ****ting expensive. I bought one of these - again seeker might have suggested it. http://www.jhsracingstore.co.uk/oil-...50-c2x13915110 Hopefully you don't need it, but if you do spot a leak, that's where it'll be. |
