In tribute to my SV

Had a sudden death in the family so had to get over to the west coast of Ireland in a hurry over the weekend.

Obv not the best of circumstances but it renewed my love for my knackered old curvy. It got me across the country at a constant 100/110 both ways without missing a beat, still delivering about 50mpg (and probably a new Dublin to Galway record) in the process.

It also cost a third of what a car would on the ferry and meant that I was first on, first off. Well worth for the stiff neck and Elvis leg I've got today.

Just had to share that.

I've just completed a 2300 mile trip on my 14 year old Curvy across Europe to Croatia and back, purred all the way and returned 65mpg at bimbling pace.

.......old Curvys deserve a tribute thread!

Sorry to hear about the reason for the trip, but a long ride on a bike can be an experience vs the short hops we normally do, glad you, and it held up well!

Sorry to hear for the reason for the trip, glad the bike proved it's worth. By the way speeds in Northern Ireland are measured in MPH, not KPH......

Thanks guys - yep, the ride cheered me up no end and the virtually empty motorways were such a nice contrast to my normal commute.

Was going that fast I was going through different weather systems in minutes - it was like flying!

My 2000 SV650 doesn't have high miles, just about 34,000, but it serves well for backroad and mountain day rides and the occasional track day while being reliable, cheap to operate and fun. I'm going to keep it until I die, or it does, and it can be resurrected...
Where I live, it's still MPH, and I don't think I'd change that if I rode into some KPH jurisdiction. I don't look at the speedo very much, but when I do, I want to see what I expect to see.

Sorry for your loss, but it sounds like a lovely bonding experience with your bike.

My bike is keeping me sane at the moment, when she went away for repairs I felt like I had lost a limb. I love my bike, which is odd because it is just a thing but for me it has heart and soul.

Ditto that. I had a bit of a downer on the bike recently - kept hankering after something bigger, faster, and more reliable.

But really being able to cruise at three-figure speeds is fast enough and (apart from the reg rec) all my reliability issues have been down to modifcations or the hamfisted DIY mechanical efforts of me and previous owners.

You fully recovered now Jayne? And got a nice new sparkly exhaust?

Only me that doesnt see the logic in speeding to attend a family death? Whats the point if you end up killing yourself getting there?

I always find my bike is plenty quick enough, when I borrow the other half's ZRX11 I find that it feels slow and dull at anything below sixty five and if I open the throttle full I dare not look away from the road. The SV feels like fun at thirty and is exciting at motorway speed. However when I have taken her as fast as she will go it was impressive and she will hold good speed even two up.

My bike is gorgeous now, the exhaust looks fantastic and with everything else I have done she is looking more and more like a V-Strom. I am thinking of having new stickers for the fairing made up that say SV-Strom! As for my health that remains rubbish, but I am used to that and it never stops me being a maniac!
