Re: juddering under heavy breaking
If its head bearings, then it should be notchy when turning side to side (i.e. handlebars pivoting on the headstock)
Is it notchy when turning? Matt |

Re: juddering under heavy breaking
Go and have a ride round some mini roundabouts and junctions - if its the head bearings, it'll feel horrible when riding slowly. My freind had knakcerd bearings on his kwak zx6r, you could see how hard it was for him in slower turns.
I think if you havnt noticed it, it might be the discs as they are "floating" type? Matt |

Re: juddering under heavy breaking
You need tog et the front end off the fllor I think, and pull the forks front and back, if thre is movement that would indicate head bearings.
Might be hard to detect discs if you are just tapping - when you brake you put alot more force through, possibly enough to cause the knocking movement. Anyway hovis, I'm no expert so maybe someone else can help you better Matt |

Re: juddering under heavy breaking
Based on personal experience with the 749, I suggest going for the simple answers first. I suffered an intermitant brake judder problem and did the following to eliminate it:
Check condition and pressure of front tyre. Remove brake pads and clean surfaces with brake cleaner.(My theory was that spent brake material had "fused" to the surface of the pads and was giving a false bite when first applying the brakes. The problem was fully sorted after doing this. If the problem does persist then previous folks have given a guide to what to be checking next.HTH. |

Re: juddering under heavy breaking
Had the exact same on the Monster when the wrong pads were fitted. Normal speed breaking was fine, but any high-speed stuff caused the front to vibrate like hell. Changed pads from EBC HH to a set of Ferodo ones, job done.

Re: juddering under heavy breaking
Get the front end off the deck and check for play in ther head races rather than just whether they're worn and notched. If they seem fine, and the brakes are in good condition, when was the fork oil changed? These are the three things I adjusted / checked when I had the same problem, and one of them got it.
