Default Valtermoto type 1 crashworthiness?

This one would be for the racers and more persistant crashers I reckon... I fitted a set of valtermoto type ones this year, and I've been very happy with them but I've got my doubts about their usefulness in a crash. The first time I dropped it with them on, at around 30mph, the peg snapped off more or less at the point of impact. These things happen, of course, so I didn't really consider it a black mark- though it did annoy me that a folding peg would have survived, and done no less well.

But today, I had a super-low speed spill at maybe 5mph, 10mph tops. On inspection, the peg's bent a little and in doing so the base of the peg (where the bronze bushing is) mushroomed and cracked the bushing- basically wrecking the peg and jamming the rear brake, in a crash that was barely hard enough to scratch the peg itself.

So, am I just being unlucky? I don't want to just write them off, it's just the nature of the beast that sometimes parts break when you wouldn't expect them to or survive when you'd expect them to break, but this is making me wonder. Obviously, I don't want rearsets so strong that the frame mounts snap! But at the same time, I don't think these are preventing any damage at all and being left without a peg or a rear brake is pretty annoying... But, they're nice parts otherwise. So, thought I'd look for expertise elsewhere rather than jerking a knee!

Harris ones have very weak pegs as standard, they presumably are made that way for weight, but also so it sacrificial in an off! I think having a sacrificial peg is better!! (its easy to keep spare leavers and pegs in the spares box/bag … not so easy/cheap to keep spare complete rearsets .. )

My Giles pegs on my SV look too strong to me …

Aye, definately, that's one of the reasons I'm avoiding making my own decision, I'm not sure if they could be stronger without being too strong. Not just thinking of going stronger, there's the option with valtermoto of getting folding pegs too which is kind of tempting just now. But tbh I really haven't a clue which way to go, or whether it's even worth changing. Valtermoto seem to be a popular choice, but then, so were the old R&Gs
