Have you checked the the connector has not become loose or corroded

I'd check this before condemning the unit and buying new. Unlike bikes of old that were mechanical all the way to the clock, on the SV it is electrical.

You'll need to lift the tank and the air filter to get to the connector. Unless you have a naked which is much easier as it's in the headlight.

My speedo sometimes worked at normal speed and stopped ,hooning out in the sticks.

I had originally thought it was the speedo connector behind the headstock was loose or corroded. Checked cleaned. Still probs.

Turns out it was the plastic crap of a speedo drive off the front wheel. Bit of superglue on the partially snapped bits inside and it was fixed. (No hooning for a coupla months yet though so............)

I reckon i put the drive back in out of the correct position when putting the wheel back in and misused my paddock stand so one of the lugs was resting on the wire that comes out of the drive.

Ah, well, in that case check the sensor first, if you've disturbed it recently that's your number one suspect (I'm still on the original one, but it only has half of one tooth left, it's hanging on with its fingertips ) The rotor's designed to fail, rather than damage something more expensive or safety critical.

Red face Re: Speedo Stopped Working

Well as it was not raining i had a look at the sensor thingy bob bit today

Dropped the front wheel out and had a look at it this is where it gets technical the spinney bit was gunked up with something strange that had the consistancy of dried jam so me thinks heat could of killed it.......
but with trusty tin of wd40 and an old cup and 20 mins to get tank and air box off i dropped it in the cup and squirted it to death with wd.

After 30 odd mins and some effort the spinney bit and the bit with the wire parted company so a few more mins cleaning i got it to all fit back together and the spinney bit spins inside nicely i applied some nice slippy grease stuff i found in a tin and plugged it back in.

I then spun it round and sod all ...... the line from star treking came to mind.... its worse than that its dead jim dead jim dead jim...

so put it all back to gether till i get a new one.... did the up and down the garages to make sure brakes ok still no speedo.... then after filling bike up at local worstco while walking back to bike noticed the little 8mm stud off the bottom little clap thingy was loose so i wheeled the bike to one side and using the uber cheese toolkit tightend it up .....

got on bike and rode off ......

SPEEDO WORKING ......... all i can say is ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
