Default Why do you ride?

I'm sure everyone has a different reason why they ride, for me its something I have wanted to do for a long time and now I finally have I love it, so much so I think my friends and family are are little bored of exicted I am about my bike!

For me its a total release I finding it relaxing and can forgot all other problem when I'm on my bike. The first time I got on a bike I wa so nervous, now I feel great when I'm on my bike. On a good ride I total get into the ride, I just imerse myself into being with the bike.

I am a bit of adernial junkie, I used race laser 2's out on the wire with the spikanner up screaming around lakes, that was ace. Most of sports/hobbies I do are like, first time I fenced with my the sword was mad, but a hell of fun!

Its true for sure, two wheels move the soul, and leave a big grin!

So why do you then?

Didnt we have this before? Anyway, its always a nice discussion and sure to stir up some insiration to get out.

I ride for two main reasons; pleasure, and because I dont have a car. Now to elaborate!

I derive pleasure from riding due to the feeling of being involved. What i do, every shuffle, change of foot placement, how i breath, how i fart, affects what the bike does. Just this week I hit a massive discovery that not grippping the handlebars so much and grippping with my knees instead makes the bike so much more responsive in corners. I knew this for ages, but never actualy did it through inexperiance. This in itself gives me pleasure, knowing that I've worked out one of those "secrets to fast riding". I love the feeling of how the bike is so settled mid corner, how it just goes and does what I want. In the winter, I get all that fresh cool air to breath. In the summer, I can smell the countryside and get a lovely cool airflow. Its an awesome feeling being on a bike, I feel like I'm enjoying some secret thing that you can only understand being on a bike, you cant explain it...being on a bike is just brilliant. I love the skill involved, the way I cannot concentrate on anthing but riding. Its a great theraputic tool, I always unwind on my bike even when I've had the crappest day or feel completly useless (shut up whoever just said "you are useless alpinestarhero!!" )

Becasue I dont have a car, I have to commute to uni by bike. This has obvious disadvantages; I have to walk about uni in my bike kit, I get wet and cold, i have to have the topbox to store stuff safely (actualy, i love my topbox). But the positives far outweigh the benefits. You do any journey by car across london, and I'm pretty confident I'll do the same journey in half the time. I park for free at uni, whilst my mate pays £25 a day in the NCP car park - if he dosnt decide to park farhter away and enjoy a 20min walk to uni. This brings me onto another great thing about owning a bike - its cheaper! Even when I had passed my test, I ws paying at least 50% less for my insurance than when my brother passed his car test. I pay less tax, less petrol bills, and if i want to journey into central london, I dont even pay the congestion charge.

Owning a bike is brilliant. Whats more, I belong to a huge club - at elast it feels like it - where whatever biker I talk to, he or she will instanty understand what I mean when we talk about bikes.

Oh, and it gives me an excuse to be a member here and has allowed me to make some great freinds.

Merry Christmas

Matt

Used to be fun. Now it's primarily a combination of because I make money on every mile I ride for work (which nicely augments my salary) and I don't get stuck in jams for 2 hours every other time I use the M6 (and hence get hours of my life back).

I decided to take up biking after constantly sitting in queues of traffic and watching bikers filter past me. One such person was my ex-boss - she would leave home 20 minutes AFTER me, and still get to work 20 minutes BEFORE me ... sometimes my journey to work would take 2+ hours, and I got sick of it. So I took my test and have been loving every minute of it since passing oh, except the falling off bit ... don't like that ... and don't intend on doing that again in a hurry!

Mainly to get to work. Sometimes fun.

Why did i buy a bike? Well, i had my 1st 50 at 16, then got car after car, then bought a scooter to commute as it was cheaper. I then wanted a bikgger bike, so i passed my test and got one.

I dont live and breath bikes. Its a tool thats all.

There he is again with one of them touching speech's.

For me its forced as i have nothing else buttttttt....... I have loved bikes from about the age of 12. Now i ride them and love them to bits, for me it has to be the freedom and the skill it can take sometimes. Making good friends from being a biker.
