Was the number you were thinking of a multiple of 9?

10a + b = c
where is the number you first thought of

so
c-(a+b) = d
where d is the number the "mind reader" reads you mind to find out.

substituting c in from the orginal equation you get:
10a+b-(a+b)=d
therefore d=9a

so d must be a multiple of 9 and all the multiples of 9 have the same symbol

Ha... I beat it on the 2nd go, not sure if its cos i deliberately didn`t hover my mouse over the numbers and symbols?
