IIRC, you can board a domestic flight with only a driving license for ID (any picture ID will suffice, I think) but I think a EU passport is needed to fly out of the UK.

I've gone to my local passport office and collected one on the same day but that was a while ago and during the week. Sorry I can't be more positive and gutted for your mate if that's the case.

"Passport validity

All British passport holders require a valid passport. There is no minimum passport validity requirement but you should ensure that your passport is valid for the proposed period of your stay"

I thought you just needed a photo driving licence too!

Check the airline website/ring the airline.....

In theory yes, but in practice unlikely. Easy-Jet for instance state you must have a passport as id, even for internal flights. tossers!

have you tried getting a new passport issued urgently? He might not make the flight, but perhaps he can change the flight to a later one/the next day and still make some of the holiday?

Otherwise I suggest he spends the whole night turning his house upside-down!

PS. from experience I think he'd have more luck winging it on the coach than at the airport

I thought that UK passports were valid for 10 years. Am I wrong?
