DVLA ‘loses hundreds of bike licences’

This story keeps rearing it's ugly head - they've been losing licences for years now.

It's getting me petrified to send my old paper licence off for a new photo licence.

Gve them a call and ask them if they can tell you your licence catagories that they have on their system. At least you'll know!

As long as it's ok...

Then photocopy it before hand and post it off. Should be ok!

Otherwise, refuse like my dad does and keep your old licence forever!

like the advice in the article says: just take a copy, along with a M/C insurance certificate, as this is only issued once license details are confirmed, hopefully should their incompetence strike you can then show that you have the entitlement...

I read about this before, so I have photo copies of my pass certificate and previous licence.

I think I better copy my current licence in case I ever lose it.

Having a photocopy is only half of it, take it along to the justice of the peace/police (not the desk PC) and get the photocopy witnessed

You dont have to - you can get a new licence online, they even use your existing passport photo. Its really easy.

DVLA are not different to the rest of the government department with losing information and the sad thing is, the public have to prove to the authorities and not the other way round. I have multiple photocopies of my pass certificate, licence, insurance and V5's and carry only the copies with me.
