OK, I have a slight problem with cowboy contractors but this does one takes the biscuit
We have a shower of incompetent ignorants rear orifices contractors putting new gas mains in. They have blocked drives. Stopped vehicle access and don't light their excavations. Name and shame the company causing grief and misery is called May Gurney. After 1 week of harassment they finally installed access to SOME of my neighbours drives. But not quite, they have finally partially installed plates over some of the excavations but with insufficient width to allow a car to actually turn onto their drives. The prat in one of their trucks today blocked the road to prevent any car travelling on it for over an hour whilst he played with the grab. So, do a company have the right to stop traffic movement. To put barriers across the public highway. without consultation for non emergency convenience. Should they light the 40 plus barriers they have paced in the road. to stop access to drives etc. Today May Gurney, pooe'd on me. They would not let my daughter within 300 yards of my home. They' blocked the road for over an hour when I had to go to pick my wife up. If you ever get this shower of incompetents digging outside your homes. Move to a nearby hotel for the duration. Their website does not even list a contact to whom you can mail photographs, etc of the problems they are causing. I wonder why?

Maybe you and your neighbours should all band together and barricade the road before these cowboys turn up so they can't get access

The local authority will have authorised this work. Contact your councils roads department to complain.
Try to moderate your descriptions of the company and its workers, but explain what problems they are causing. |

Classic one today. They have dug yet another hole blocking in a neighbours car.
From the look of it, they are on another neighbours new drive, swinging the metal detector. Should confuse them because he installed a hell of a lot of rebar when he had his drive installed. Now, they tell me that they may have to dig up drives etc to route pipe if they can't get the plastic through the existing mains. People round here have spent in the region of £15,000 a piece on new pressed concrete drives etc. I predict the fun has yet to really start.

I'd get pictures of all this and file an official complaint.
Either that, or while the guys on the digger, just get in the lorry and move the damn thing yourself, and if they give you attitude and abuse and threats, make sure someone is filming this part from a house or hidden location. Adds to your cause, and its mearly their word against yours about moving the truck, but u'll have the abuse on film ![]() I dunno though, i'd hit the roof though. Tim, i do feel for you, you do seem to go through some **** all the time. |

they would need to seek approval from the council for the works in the first place and this should cover any sort of road closures etc..... especially when digging up in front of peoples houses and causing incovinience to driveways etc..... they should have been some dialogue from the council to say this work would be happening and they should have notified you of any disruption that may be caused. 3 things you could do, contact the council to complain, contact the 'considerate contractors' scheme if they have any of their logos on works. this is a company who are there to make sure contractors (of any construction works) are considerate to neighbours and people round about etc.... or as it sounds like they are leaving excavations in unsafe manors you could contact the health and safety exec to come and check out the site. they really shouldnt be leaving excavations outside driveways without proper road plate sover them, or without them being properly surrounded by barriers to stop anyone falling in. hope that helps somewhat

I would also consider fitting CCTV in an upstairs window if you are going to stand up for yourself - that will catch anhy vandalism too.

Health and Safety executive.
These are the boys with the big sharp teeth. Send them an email, with photos, particularly good would be photos of deep holes without barriers! I would not suggest moving any barriers to take photos though - - honest! |
