Before I start it's not an SV but a Daytona. Got the tyres done and just sorted the chain tension but when I ran it on the paddock stand I heard a sound which I traced to the disc rubbing the brake pad in one spot. The caliper could clearly be seen twitching at the same point. I undone the disc on the wheel and rotated it and checked for dirt or crud behind the mountings but nothing. I put it back in a defferent position but the same thing occurred. Straight away it dawned on me it must be when the disc fell out of my van onto the floor. Is it possible that this has warped it? I'd never ran the bike on the stand until now so can't be sure if it's just happened or not. I think by moving the position of the disc on the wheel I've proved the wheel isn't crooked.
Any advise or help from people in the know appreciated please. I was going to take the bike out soon to scrub in the tyres. I'll stop after a bit to check the disc isn't melting off the wheel. If it is warped can it be skimmed? I understand the tolerance for bike discs is very low. ![]() |

From the drop you describe, there is a good chance of a damaged disc.
That said it's most unusual to find a disc that wears completely evenly, so ride the bike, if you feel a pulsing from the pedal when using the brake, (often this is more apparent when using the brake gently), then the disc is warped. As Ricardo says, discs can sometimes be straightened, this will very likely be cheaper than a new disc, so, as in your case, the disc is relatively new and has plenty of life left in it then straightening, if possible, could be investigated.

You won't believe this. Just before taking the bike out I had a bash at sorting it myself. I found the spot where it was rubbing more than usual and got a large adjustable and gave it a very light bit of "flexing" or "manipulation" as I like to call it. Span the wheel at speed and slowly and it'd cleared! Ran the bike in first and second gear at different speeds and didn't see the caliper move at all. It was dark but with a torch magnifying the caliper onto the ground it didn't move at all. I'll check a bit more when it's daylight. Took the bike out and broke very gently and didn't feel anything unusual at all. Lovely. I wonder whether it'd been like that since I left the disc lock on it months ago. There are a few marks on the disc but I'm really happy with it. You'll have to have a quick looksie for me when I'm down Soho next. I suppose if it is all ok and I don't feel anything the marks will disappear.
