Default advice for a newbie re sv650

Hi everyone, im looking to purchase a new sv650. Im needing a bike to commute to and from work which is a round trip of 100 miles, going to do this 5 times a week so therefor 2000 miles a month. was advised I would need to be replacing the chain and sprockets all the time covering that sort of disatance, can anyone advise roughly how many miles you can cover before you need to get this done. thanks Jack

depends how well you look after your chain. With that sort of milleage I fit a scotoiler which lubes the chain for you as you ride.

Liz got about 20K out of her first OEM Chain and sprockets with a scotoiler fitted to her SV...

That's probably about right if you dont do ANYTHING to a chain.

Covering that many miles on a commute, how come you ended up on an SV out of interest? Can think of many better bikes for that sort of task.

Our chains last around 30,000 miles, and we ride two-up all the time and don't have a Scottoiler. We just look after the chain, clean it regularly and lube after every ride.

Not saying its a bad decision and they really are a cracking bike, love mine.

Just if i had to ride that distance every day, i'd want something a bit more cossetting like mebbe a Transalp, comfy and a good commuter due to the height.

But dont want to put you off an SV, you'll love it.
