I keep seeing posts for bikes for sale with the 33BPH kit. What is this? Is it a kit to boost horsepower by 33HP or to reduce down to 33bhp or what? If it is to boost HP up 33, what does the kit include?

if you are of a certain age or choose to take a restricted test you have to ride a 33 bhp or below bike for 2 years.
the actual "kit" can be anything from a couple of large washers restricting fuel air/ carb slidders or ecu module, but really anything will do even a throttle stop. Cheers Mark.

It may be worth clarifying that this is an issue only in the UK, where this forum is based. I believe you are in the US in which case it wouldn't be important.

For the carb'd SV's (1999 - 2002), the kit is two washers that are inserted in the carbs to restrict the flow of air. For the FI SV's, the kit is simply a computer chip which replaces the stock ECU. My bike is restricted to 33 bhp, its not bad, still tops 100 mph, but i cant wait for 12th july - my two year restriction period is up, and I get the full 70 odd bhp ![]() |
