Question Would you be happy with this?

This is the front fork of an Sv thou for sale on ebay. It's done under 10k miles and is 04 registered. The seller reckons he broke the fork whilst tightening up the clamp bolts.

Possible, or more likely a result of contact with something solid?

I'd imagine it got dinged first. I'd have thought the threads would have stripped first otherwise? Either way, I'd have thought someone wasn't using a torque wrench...

It might just be the pic, but I'd say that was a reasonably obvious bit of scuffing on the nearest allen bolt head

At the right price, yes

Bluey, not sure how you can see any scuffing...but yeah, could be.
I guess the question is , what's the rest of the fork leg or bike like.

FS, He was probably one of those who worship at the temple of 'WrenchTorque'

it's been crashed, simple as that, the washers aren't standard, I'd be interested in see under them.

As Ben said at the right price, sure , I think Raf said a fork bottom was ?200 odd new for the thou.

Cheers Mark.

I've just had a look at the listing and the rest of the bike looks good to excellent , I'd say.

He has never had a problem using it 'as is' he says . I'll buy it if rest checks out OK but no way, I'm I riding with a fork like that.

It's about where it would break if it was going to for over-tightening I reckon. I'd still be surprised the threads / bolts hadn't given up first, but fork legs aren't made of the best materials in the world...

Raf found a split in the fork leg lower of his SV 1000 a while back, hadn't been apparent up to that point or been in a crash....

Either way, it needs a new one fitting that does, if the rest of the bike looks OK and the price reflects the new fork slider & agro of changing it then it's all good

Another thing is, I don't understand why people act a bit daft sometimes

If it were me, I'd have just bought a set of forks off a breaker and then sell the damage one later. Saves a lot of speculation regards hw damage came about and possible acheive a better sale
