Default Tested a YZF 1000R today..

Gay bike name; Thunderace - directly from Top Gun...

After establishing that; the bike was so good... Of course it was really odd to drive I4 when brain (?) is set for a twin. I really liked the chassis, it didn't nod when braking and seemed to steer better (more accurately) than the SV. I have WP springs and stiffer oils in the forks, but still the Thunderace was remarkably better.

After I stopped chaning gears at 7k the bike really showed what the extra 350cc can do. It was like driving a bike for the first time again Slightly scary when there was so much power on the tap. The 5 speed box didn't impress, but I guess it is ok and one learns to live with it.

I'd need to pay something around 2k? between that and the SV. The Ace (see, that is gay!) is 4 years older but has done 20000 km less. The meter might be tampered however, so I'm not really counting that into the equation.

I'm not sure if I want to trade. I'd love to get a bigger bike (mainly the dimensions, the power is not necessary) as I'm over 6 foot 8... Then again I'm sure the SV has still a lot to teach, but I could learn the same with the Ga... Ace. I like the looks of the Yamaha (huh, that looks better), being full faired and 'modern'. The back seat doesn't have a handle I know my girlfriend likes in the SV, but I'd put a rack there anyway so there is something to lean to.

Any thoughts?

?2K plus an SV sounds way to much to pay for an Ace. Should cost you less than ?2k. Lucky has one & had some problems to start with.

Lovely bikes the 'aces, however the deal doesn't sound that great to me. £2000 and a SV for an 'ace is overpriced!

It feels that the Yamahas are slightly more valued than Suzukis here... And yes, the currency is Euro, not Sterling

I guess different market........

Never had a Gay Experiance - but yer will get kinda hooked on the fact that from 80mph an IL4 litre bike is just getting into it's stride and takes off like a scalded cat.

Takes little skill in a straight line but great fun nonethless and addictive........ Main reason I bought an SV650..........

Really? All the fours I've owned have been great at low speed, the one I have now is better than an SV.

It goes 'round corners fine too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, of all the bikes I ever owned I really regret selling my 45,000 mile old slightly battered Thunderace.

Try saying it in that American Movie Voiceover Man type way:

THUNNNDER AAACE!

Also works for

FIRRRRE BLAAADE!

Just a thought, might help...
