Default Breakdown Cover Prices

That time again, along with insurance renewal. Currently with the AA, as one cover does me for the car and bike. Renewal price ?141. I can get the same cover for the bike with my insurance for ?50, then the same again for the car. Quick call to the AA to cancel, and what a surprise, ?61 off, now ?80 for the year. Shows what profit there is in it when they can drop the price by over 40% in 10 seconds.

Exactly why I cancelled my AA a few years ago. They wouldn't give me a better price until I said to cancel it. I'm a bit stuborn with things like that, so told 'em to stick it

I would have done the same if they would only have matched the lower price. I'm also working to a tight budget at the moment and having had to call them out two days ago coz my dozy mate locked his one and only set of car keys in his car with the engine running, think the benefit of being able to call them out when in someone else's car might be useful!

Reminds me, just set it up for the wifes car last month. Searched on moneysupermarket.com and a company called "IC Breakdown" turned out best. Sure it was £29 quid for the year, breakdown assistance and recovery - no home start.

I want homestart - as both the car and the bike sit at home most of the time, that's when there is most likely to be a problem, i.e. won't start! I used to work for Green Flag, I seem to recall that statistically the majority of call outs are to the home address too, hence home start cover tends to be the pricey bit.

Does anyone know any companies that will recover you after an accident. Most like AA RAC etc, won't. They do breakdown recovery, not accident.

I just took out breakdown cover with Britannia for ?140 for me and my OH. Between us we have two cars, two bikes, a caravan and we are going abroad (towing!) in summer.

So not really too bad for full cover for our entire fleet.

Good news on the insurance renewal front too. Got Express (whom I've been with for the last 2 years) to get there renewal down to ?250 FC + ?250 XS, inc legal cover and helmet & leathers cover. Unlimited mileage on the policy too. I'm happy with that.

You used to work for Green Flag??

My brother used to work for them, but he left them 4 or 5 years ago. I still get the renewal sent through at friends and family rate!

75 quid see's me and our lass covered with everything except european cover, including personal cover!

I even got a cheque for £10 recently, after they came out after the 1 hour promise!!
