http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Keep-left-signs/
also known as: "GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE LANE YOU INCOMPETENT DITHERING FOOL" I saw a few of these on the M42 (the leccy signs are already there of course, but more often than not they've nothing to say) |

I've seen it written on the LED warning signs. Good thing too, I get fed up of undertaking everyone.

This gets worse as you get closer to London I find. At least on the M40 it does. Going up the M6 into Cheshire it is somewhat better. Seeing the LED signs saying "don't hog the middle lane" was nice, didn't notice if it helped or not. I sometimes, if there is absolutely nobody else about but the middle-laner, overtake as normal in the outside, drop back in to the nearside, let off the throttle and let them pass me (which sometimes they don't as they probably think I am a) mental or b) po-po) and then overtake them again as normal. It's either that or i'd go mad and start swearing at them :/

I'm actually thankful motorways weren't built with four lanes as standard rather than three.
People wouldn't have a clue, would they? |

best in rush hour when there's a long line of bmw's, mercs, porsche's etc in the fast lane doing 50.... and not a single vehicle in the middle lane. Then a magnum grey 55 plate mondeo flashes past the lot in lane one. I dont do it that often but I do get fed up when I've been on the road for a long time.

Yes, if the middle is free, there's a lorry about 800 miles down the road in the nearside and the outside is full of people WHO USE THEIR BRAKES FOR NO GOOD REASON, EVEN WHEN THEY HAPPEN TO BE A GOOD DISTANCE FROM THE CAR IN FRONT I will sometimes drop into the nearside and go past them all. I think this is quite acceptable provided there is the free lane inbetween. If they start moving into the middle I pack it in right away.
I eagerly await my first motorway trafficy experience on the bike :/ |

It's super irritating but be careful undertaking. I've been run on to the hard shoulder at 90 when someone suddenly decided to pull over after miles of lane hogging.
Truth is those petitions mean nothing sadly, if you look at the responses all of them are along the lines on "downing street understands your concerns but we know best". I just let it be known by means of light flashing, horn beeping and tailgating ![]() |
