Rear brake keeps locking

Hi,

I bought my SV650s new in December. I've done about 2k miles now, and have been experiencing the rear brake locking on too many occasions!

When braking, the rear brake is locking, resulting in the rear end sliding.
It may sound like I am applying too much pressure to the rear brake, but i'm not!

On the few occasions that I do use my brakes, the majority of pressure is applied to the front. I tickle the rear brake, but it seems to grab excessively.
When I experience the rear locking I immediately release the brakes, But the rear brake seems to continue grabbing for some time, continuing the slide.

I let my house mate ride the bike this evening. He has a lot more riding experience than me, and has previously owned an SV1000. He experienced the same problem at low speed this evening! He also said the front brake doesn't seem to work as well as it should!

It's still under warranty. Talk quite loudly (but politely initially) in the dealership. Sounds like the caliper is binding.

I'm sure they'll sort it for free if there are other customers in earshot.

That will just be the Sv's brakes IMHO they are shocking compared to other bike i have ridden like the Fazers.

It's not engine braking is it,the SV trade mark.

Aye, thats what i was thinking, when mine was new(er) i slid the back a few times as a result of down-changing too fast, especially in the wet/poor conditions etc.
