Default SV road test in MCN

Has anybody read it?
Makes interesting reading. Even after all the years the SV has been around, the only bad thing MCN could really say about it was that it was, & I quote "Only suffers from being old and being able to do everything while not excelling at anything"
Not too bad a write up for an old bike put up against the new boys like the Monster, Shiver & ER6N
I do think that Suzuki need to revamp the SV to bring it up to date though, even if they just raided the "older" model Gixxer parts bins & uprated the forks & suspension.

Replacement/update long over due for our SV. Purely from a styling and handling perspective for me,although a little more bhp/torque is always nice ..... for daft bragging rights at least!

That Duc is a wee honey. Unfortunately "wee" counts it out for me. Midgets only! Hope they make a steroided air-cooled thou+.

I doubt they will revamp until another bike steals some sales, and as I saw in one of the mags last month (bike?) its still a class leader in sales, They are not going to bother tinkering with a successful recipe.

On one of the old 'Men and Motors' tv channel someone called it the swiss army knife of bikes, which just about sums it up I thought.

A 750 version would be nice.

I just think that if Suzuki put the GSXR USD forks and rear shock on the SV as standard it would add peanuts to the retail price and they would see twice as many. This mod completely transforms the bike and it's so easy to do with bits straight off the shelf that I just can't understand why they don't do it. (or for that matter any SV owner)

but then wouldn't it be too underpowered for its chassis, critics would say 'why have really trick suspension when the motor lets it down'.

and you cant up the power without taking sales away from some other market, tho there is no sv1000 now.

I think they should update the SV with GSX-R suspension (fully adjustable of course), make it handle a little quicker (more like the SS600s of the modern day), update the engine - maybe make it 100+ hp, add a nice 180 rear, add a steering damper, etc.

Cos I really want a TL

P.s. If I go on GS500 forum will I see posts along the lines of "why don't they stick the old SV650 front brakes on the GS as standard?"

I've even heard people with GS's fitting the shock from the SV

The SV celebrates it's 10th anniversary next year, Suzuki might have a revamp or special lined up.

They shouldn't touch the engine. One of the reasons the SV is so popular is because of it's engine, it's a peach, enough power to play properly, not enough to frighten of newbies, or their insurance companies. If you want 100hp+ buy a SS600.
