Default Ta Scoobs...

...and Grinch, and Studley for a rather spanking rideout today. I thoroughly enjoyed it!! However...

...my bike's developed this really nasty rear-end wobble as I bank round corners... I just set myself-up lovely to take a bend, and as I dip the throttle to dip the bike, it starts to squirm and it throws my bike off it's path.

It's more than a little unnerving, and it's very unpredictable. I've a feeling it's gotta be the rear shock, as it's wound down so tight so's my stumpy-McStump legs can touch the ground. I'm nervous enough already after a year off of it, and this set-back is doing my confidence no good whatsoever.

Anybody got any ideas, other than stretching me on a rack? I don't want peeps to stop riding with me, but I can see it happening as it's making my riding very unpredictable in the corners.

What is your rear tyre like? If it has a flat-spot, this will give the symptoms you describe. Also, check the head-bearings.

I take it you checked the tyre pressures??

As above, but I'd be inclined to say that the headbearings would make the front squirm. When mine went it made the handling shiite to the point that it felt like it were going to fall over itself

Can't Grinch ride it for a 2nd opinion - at least you'll know it's (not) in your head.

I heard Raf's back end was squirmy because the front spindle was lose. So it's not always a direct relationship about what you feel & where the problem is.

Jessica rabbits rear squirming... ohhhh gosh that would be terrible ...

Anyway

Rear tyre in good nick? Right pressure?

Not enough preload can make everything feel a bit vague, if the bike's been stood for a while have the wheels been rotated every now and again?

I would agree that where you feel a fault doesn't mean it's there, for example too much compression damping at the back will make the forks feel harsh...

Looks like the oil in the shock is gone off, so need to look out for a new one for her.
