Right, how strict are authorities, be it police, traffic wardens, clamping agencies etc, to just parking your bike anywhere? i'm right in thinking your not actually 'allowed' to just leave your bike on the pavement because the road is covered with pay parking or double yellow lines?
and has anyone ever had trouble leaving there bike in say the awkward gaps at the end of a pay to park bay? i'm a bit of a girl when it comes to stuff like that, its not like i could put an hourly rate parking ticket on my bike, they'd just nick it round here |

I've never had any problems, but Derby city council allow free parking for motorbikes in all council car parks, including city centre ones, so we don't really get hassled too much. I also worry about parking on pavements, but see plenty of other people doing it, my theory is it's probably ok so long as you don't cause obstruction, i.e. so that a wheelchair or pushchair couldn't get past

I don't park on double yellows, or disabled bays, but i park pretty much where i like, as long as people can get past withut knocking one of my mirrors with a pram.
My philosophy still stands that on my tax disc it states my motorcycle is a bicycle, and they put bicycles on pavements or anywhere else for that matter..................hehe

Stick your plate on with velcro, and have a bike that looks like mine so you don't care if it gets knocked a bit.

be a bit more thoughtful, park near a lamppost that people would have to walk around anyway

Is it an urban myth, that if you put a bike cover over your bike, traffic warden arnt actually allowed to touch the cover to read your plate/tax disc to give you a fine?

Well contrary to all this info, I would strongly advise against parking on pavements. I have received a ticket in Oxford for it and Phill got one in Islington for it. It is illegal to park on pavements and they seem to be enforcing it now sadly

As someone has already mentioned, all our local car parks have a designated bike parking area, so no need to park on pavements. I would be cautious about parking on a pavement anyway as someone is bound to knock/scratch my bike or worse, give me a ticket!!

I've got loads of tickets for parking on the pavement or at the end of disabled bays etc -always parked so i wasn't obstructing anyone or stopping others parking but the c**ts are far more interested in your money that using common sense - DONT RISK IT - THEY WILL HAVE YOU!
