Default Isle of Man speed cameras

anyone else get caught in the island speeding
they know how to squeeze your money out of you.
£150.00 for being 15 mph over the speed limits and then £10 per mile for each mile more than that. plus £30 admin charge.
one guy i spoke to paid £498.00 for doing 98 in a 50 limit.
no points but a ban counts in england apparently.

Theres not a point in arguing, I've worked that one out. Its a speed limit, thats what it is there for. They are trying to aid other riders and get them to abide by the speeds so that so that things like this don't happen. If you plan on going back, I'm sure you will try not to get caught again will you

My Dad got caught at Rhencullen last year just before the change from 30 to 40. He was doing 43 I think - £250 ish fine. I saw a guy get stopped a year or two back at Sulby Bridge, was doing 78 in a 30 zone. Was banned for 12 months, fined £1500 and I think was deported and banned from the Island for 5 years.

I know they've tightened up the rules since I attended the TT (2003) - but I have to say that I have little sympathy for people caught speeding within the 30 - 50mph areas; let's face it, there are enough places on the island where you can hit 'silly' speeds without any bother, so why do it where there is a posted limit ?

Am I right in thinking that there are places for no speed limit? If the mountain is one of the parts, thats all the fun you need

Yes any where there is a national speed limit sign over there means 'as fast as you like... but be safe you fool!'. The mountain being one of them.

If the mountain is open for any speed, do it on that mannnnnn. There aren't many other places that you would be able to anyway with other vehicles on the road. And the mountain is the best bit

i've often thought this and recognise there are holes in the idea but:

I'd rather pay a larger fine for speeding than have point on my licence for 3 years. i.e. a 60 pound fine and 3 points on your licence for 3 years OR a 300 quid fine and no points? the obvious flaw in this idea is that the wealthy would be able to drive as fast as they like and just pay the fines as they go. The poor would be priced off the road for a minor infringement of the speed limit.

Having said that, imagine this: for your first ever speeding offence you get a cash only fine and no points - kind of a "it's your first time speeding, don't do it again, here's a fine" approach. If you get caught speeding again, adopt the current points system of 3 points (or more) per offence.

The first & only time i got stopped by the police for speeding (when I was 19 in a rover 216) stupidly doing about 55 in a 30 at 1am down a straight quiet road, they gave me a right royal telling off (and I do mean right royal)... Luckily enough for me they didn't get a reading on my speed because I "accelerated and deccelerated that quickly" (pulled off a roundabout and floored it in 2nd gear...).

after that I slowed right down and haven't driven like a proper juvenile tw@ since. I think if i'd received points and fine I would have been a lot more bitter about it and would be one of those people who always say "yeah I've got 3 points but I wasn't really going that fast and they should be catching proper criminals bleh bleh bleh"...

just a sample of the mindless guff that reverb's around my head when I've had a few cans (of COBRA! I didn't know they did cobra in cans until tonight... the world seems different, somehow)
