Default Stubby.

Today a big stone hit my can @ about 60 This:

A) Caused a dent in the can
B) Peed me off
C) Gives me an excuse to stubby it

The dent is towards the end of the can so stubbying should be do-able.

My questions are:

- How do I do it?
- Is it easy to do?
- What do i need to do the job?
- Should i just pay someone to do it?

Any help would be much appreciated people

what kwak said.

microns are a bitch to do. titanium is had to cut

if the end is held on by rivets you should be ok, someone was quoted £50 to have it done.

if you are not to bad at DIY stuff i would say give it a go.

I'm doing the same to my twin renegade system whilst re-packing them and resleeving them in carbon fibre.

On my Blue flame
I first tapped all over the can to stop it from more damage
Then marked where I wanted to cut
I used a dremel with a thin slitting disk in it, made short work of the titanium
The can was still together at this point
I then ground down the welds inside the inlet pipe that held on the inner perforated tube and the end came off
I carefully ground down the heads of the rivets & punched them out, removing the band & what was left of the sleeve
You then need to work out where to cut the inner tube and saw with a hack saw
Now just reassemble
if you rotate the inlet flange 180 degrees when refitting you can drill new holes for the rivets instead of trying to align the old holes

Important notes
1, if the can is oval, double check to see if the flanges are in line, a twisted can looks horrid
2, mark one hole & drill for the end of the strap, rivet on the strap, mark the second hole but drill in slightly further away than nesessary (only about 0.5mm) then rivet that hole, this streaches the strap and keeps it tight, again a baggy strap looks rubbish
repeat for all the other holes
start at the back and work your way round from the bottom, then as you get better at the position the strap will look neater on the top where it is seen

Finaly re-weld the inner tube and remove the splatter from inside the tube, bolt on and enjoy

Micron cans can be done but you need to be a bit more accurate
they are held together with one bolt that you can get to with a ball end allen key up through the tail pipe, have a look round and you should see the hole (5mm allen key i think) I snapped the head off the bolt and had to drill it out, re tap it & use a new bolt.
after the bolt is removed the can comes to pieces,
before cutting anything, measure the length of the sleeve,
cut the sleeve nice & square and remeasure it.
the differance between these two measurements is how much you need to cut out off the middle of the inner tube
carefully cut out this amount and re-weld the end back on
again make sure this is square and in line (and the right way up)
repack & assemble

If you are not confident, then dont do it, you could ruin your can
These are just guide (get out clause)
