Hi,
This forum discusses about everything there is to discuss about an SV except the abs system. I bought a SV with an abs system, mainly because i use the bike for every day commuting but also because of the safety aspect of abs. Im surprised to almost nobody buy's or is interested in an SV with abs. Why is this? Because of the extra money or because of the fact that most of the riders have enough confidence in there breaking skills? Or do most riders only use there SV's in the weekends when the sun is shining on perfect road's with little traffic? To come back to my most important question : Why are so little SV's sold with an abs system. Thanx, Wout |

Its a macho thing.
Usual arguments include. "I can out-break ABS" "I dont want the bike doing my thinking for me" "I find that locking the back wheel can be a useful maneouver which I do all the time. Arguments for are "I commute in London daily and there are so many Pedestrilems (Pedestrian Lemming hybrids) that step out from between busses that anything that may help me not drop the bike the time that happens and its been raining and there is a manhole cover is a good thing" "ABS is actually a good learning aid, it lets you know via feedback through the levers if its active, so you know you made a mistake, you just didnt get punished for it, and you dont really want to do it again because its not that pleasant, very much like having locked the rear" I got it on my Z750, and while it hasn't saved my bike from a drop yet, dont regret it. Oh and I didnt find it a problem on a trackday.

Hi
I hadn't realised that you could get ABS on the SV ? From looking on the internet, it looks like it only came in on the 2007 bikes, which means that they're aren't that many in circulation yet. However I can't find any reference to ABS on the UK Suzuki site, so it might be a country specific thing . . . Bike ABS isn't like car ABS - if you hammer on the brakes on a bike and try to do some fancy steering/swerving/cornering then you're still likely to go down. |

You can the ABS SV650 everywhere but in the UK!
As for why not so many are sold in comparisons is down to personal choice and the added cost for something that isn't much of a braking performance boost isn't justified, also ABS on bikes isn't as effective as it is on cars. |

They aren't sold in the UK, and only on very new bikes elsewhere.... so there's not too many about.
What's the point of importing a bike for brake system when the whole system will be f###ed in a couple of years anyway. |
