Default Calling all photoshop / image-y / camera people

Your help, please.

About 6 months ago I bust my very nice, portable, fairly robust, not expensive, but not cheapy digital camera, which I bought in 2002. It served me well.

It was a fuji PinePix F401. Amateur, but that's just like the pictures I take

I replaced it with a Fuji Finepix Z5.

Its absolutely rubbish. That much, that i've sold it on eBay.

It has a higher megapixel count, and yet still it fails to take a decent picture with my wobbly hands. A problem the previous Fuji had no issues with.

I'm looking for a replacement, to take decent photographs with, which isn't going to cost the earth. Like <£100.

My main requirements are:

-ability to not have blurred piccies (the F401 never took any blurry images, but I'm not technically savvy enough to understand why) - is it shutter speed?

-cost. I dont want no £300 piece of kit

-size. I need it to be compact.

What have you got? Any recommendations?

Chances are I'll be scouting round eBay, mainly because you get more for your money, I think.

I'm really tempted to go back to the F401 for just £25 quid, but I know there must be better.....added to that, theres not just mine thats faulty either, take a look

Ta

My little Casio Exilim EX-Z60 is a cracking camera and will take great pics even with wobbly hands It's as compact as they come and will probably be <£100 now because it's an older model. I also got my mum a little Canon compact (I think it's a powershot) and even she can get good pics from it and I got that for £70 on sale in Boots of all places. There are plenty of good, cheap cameras out there. Maybe have a trip to Jessops or somewhere, have a play with the ones you like the look of then get it online for much cheaper

Thanks Amanda,

Going to Jessops isn't a sane option for me (it makes me want to kill the staff), because the first question they ask you is "how much are you looking to spend" - which for me is just annoying because all high street shops seem to believe the internet (and its prices) dont exist (or at least all people who come in arent aware of the internet)

I despise private (and chain) shops like this, and, oh one more thing - the cameras are in a glass box behind a counter usually, and arnt charged anyway!

Sorry, I'm going off on one, its a sensible idea though.

(And relax)

I'm wondering if Fuji as a brand are not as highly rated as I thought, or maybe a just bought a crappy camera the second time?

Top rant there, but I agree with you toally

It's funny cos many moons ago I had a Fuji camera and it was great, then I got my dad one and it's give nowt but trouble so could have a point there.

I'm going to praise little casio again because I recommended it to a mate of mine and he bought one (the next model up) and loves it too Oh aye, there's the Canon IXUS range too which are good and very small. Spoilt for choice you are

I had a Nikon CoolPix for ages. was small and took good pics. But it was useless for taken anything other than snaps.

If you want to take pics of moving stuff you need soemthing that has no lag between pressing the button and the camera firing. Also something that you can adjust the shutter speed with or that adjusts the shutter speed for you.

Liz has one of the Compact Kodak cameras thats pretty good but again no use for pics where the subject is moving as it cant cope with moving subject matter very well and you get blurry pictures.

Cant really help other than that, but I wont go back to a compact after having a DSLR, but its not small and can be a pain in the bum to lug about.

I too have a fuji, Used to stand by them (they are all internally same as Olympus models too)

I have a F10 But after comparing it to my parents Sony camera, for point and shoot, Sony wins hands down, Better colours, clarity, everything. (I think its a Sony W130)
