I can't believe it!
My Fiancee, Karen and I have two lovely - if a little boistrous, young (will be 2 in October), Burmese cats - Cookie and Indi. They're indoor cats because, as a breed, they're too trusting and have verry little survival instinct, but due to the recent hot weather, and the fact that they're bouncing around the house, systematically destroying most of it and it's contents (as they have for the last 18 months we've had them!), we decided last Sunday that we'd let them out to see how they got on... All went well... Until Cookie got a little too adventurous, spooked herself a bit and then saw another cat. Bearing in mind they've only had each other for company (and they're sisters), this did not go well! She instantly puffed up the tail, put up her heckles, arched her back and started hissing and growling (and if anyone hasn't experienced a Burmese's 'voice' - I mean growling!). She then ran under the caravan and stayed there for 20 minutes or so. Indi didn't have such an issue - she was curious and friendly but got scared when she got too close and ran away to the back garden! When I eventually managed to extracate Cookie from under the caravan, I took her back inside to join Indi... She then started spitting, growling, hissing, etc. at Indi. They were the best of friends - they curled up to sleep together and play with each other all the time. Now - since Sunday - they hate each other - we have no peace (or sleep) and the cats can't come within 5 feet of each other without starting again! It's now starting to cause issues with my relationship - Karen doesn't like cats but saw how devastated I was when I had to have my last cat put down, so suggested we get a Burmese (which I'd always wanted)... It was her who suggested the 2 of them when we saw them! She's now not sleeping and works in hospital theatres for 10 hours a day, so clearly that's not good! It's also a serious drain trying to calm them down or even to just put up with them! We got some cat pheremone spray yesterday and tried spraying that around but it doesn't seem to make much (if any) difference. To make things worse, we're off to Brands Hatch World Supers tomorrow afternoon but can hardly leave them like this. I can't really not go, as I'm a senior marshal. Karen had to beg, plead and pull some serious strings to get her shifts covered so she could join me for the weekend - even though she can't stand the bikes! (Evening festivities and the break away are good!) So now I'm at a loss! Anyone have any bright ideas!? |

Stop interfering and let them sort it out themselves.

Tranquilisers? Bungee tie downs? Duct tape over the claws?
Use your imagination... Or shut them in seperate rooms?

This is an option which I tried in the first place but one always seems to come over to the other, only for it all to start up again!
It may also destroy the house - which Karen is very not happy about! Tis also not really fair to leave them at it while her Dad and my Mum are popping in to feed them - it's quite scary! I also don't want to come home to find one or two dead cats - they're my girls and I love them dearly but also they cost us £450 each!!! |

They had pretty much adopted territories with Indi upstairs and Cookie downstairs but now Cookie keeps coming upstairs - this then starts things all over again when they see each other! |

+1.
It may take time, but they will eventually get used to having their own areas of the house/garden, but you may always have problems if they run into each other and don't get along. Hope you have plenty of space for them!
