Default Curvy Dash Light

Is my 2001 Curvy (fully faired) meant to have a dash light?

You can't see the dials on my bike when riding at night and it is very annoying!

I assume there is meant to be one and the bulb has gone, but wanted to check on here before I start taking things apart.

Next question, if yes, how do I get to the bulb to change it?

Cheers,

Toby

Yes they should be backlit, can't remember how to change the faired ones though.

Few posts on here about it, some about how to change for red LEDs or whatever but same process.

Toby,
Yes, you should have lights. I think there are two or maybe three bulbs in the unit for this purpose.
Take off your front fairings and remove the clock unit. Undo all the phillips-head screws on the back of the clock unit and you will see all the bulbs in the circuit board. It's a half-turn to remove them.
Have you had the fairing off before? If not, make sure you get all the fasteners off, including the little plastic push fittings that are underneath on each side (above the front fender).
Don't step backwards onto your fairing panels

Thanks mate. yeah i've had the fairings off before. Does the nose fairing need to come off too?

Seems a very long monotonus process for a couple of poxy LEDs!

Does anyone know what bulbs I need so I can buy them before I take it to bits?

Cheers,

Toby

You can have a look when you're in there but I think the whole lot has to come off to get proper access. You're right, it's a total faff just to change a bulb. Might as well stick some GSXR forks on while you're at it.
Sorry, don't know the spec of the bulbs - standard twistlock stuff I think.

3 bulbs, and the ENTIRE front fairing needs to come off. I have tried LEDs and frankly they are next to useless, even the wide dispersion ones just dont light up enough of the dials, or you het bright spots. Std bulbs should last long enough, my current bulbs have lasted over 4 years.

As to removing the firings, its a fairly simple process will involve a 4mm, 6mm allen keys, a philips screw driver. You need to remove the clocks from the bike as well which is a 7mm spanner iirc. Replace all 3 bulbs whilst you are there. You dont have to remove the screen from the nose cone.

Start by removing the mirrors then each side fairing, then the front rembering the philips screw in the front air duct and the plastic plug type things underneath, then the nose cone (2 bolts underneath) and unplug the sidelight. Then the clock surround, then the clocks. Just remember to plug the side light back in when you put it back together! Its a faff, but i can get it done in about 20 mins all in!

The bulbs are 1.2v capless or you cen get them in the holders. There are 2 types of holder though and the ones in the sv have the contacts flush with the holder and not raised like the ones that you get form Halfords.

firstly, be sure they've all gone cos its a ball ache to get to it all.
There are 3 bulbs, all positioned stupidly! I thought for the whole time I owned my curvy that the lights must have had a few go but when I recently stripped it all I found that the 3 were all working they're just positioned poorly.
You've got 1, behind the bit of plastic to the left of the speedo, then one behind the rev counter (sort of to the left), then the 3rd is just off to the right of the rev counter.
I cant tell you the types of blub used but it could be a more sinister electrical issue if they've all gone, or simply a dodgy connection. Might be worth wiggling you're connecters first before stripping everything.
