Default Are you happy in your work?

I have to in the main I enjoy my job. But.

I have a guy in at the moment fitting my new gas fire. All he ever does is moan. This isn't right, I need to build this up. Nobody told me there was a flue to remove. I hate going on roofs I shouldn't be doing this on my own.

this should be extra. Now I have had to buy a chimney pot etc.

I feel like telling him to get a new job. For god sake he is even self employed.

Why if they don't enjoy it, do people do a job?

I have come to the conclusion that some people just like a good moan.

Yup we have plenty of people here who have been here 15 years plus who do nothing but moan about the place!

Sounds like my mother in law - ain't happy till she got somethin to complain about!

Back on theme: Finding job satisfaction is sooo important for a happy life. Thankfully I love my job - but I had to work bloody hard to get to where I am. For some people tho, I'd imagine its not that easy to give up their job just cos they don't like it, and even harder to find somethin they do. These things take a lot of time and effort. By the sounds of it, your gas fitter just seems to be unhappy about doing any work at all!

+1

Especially when you consider that we spend most of our lives at work..! Like you, Im also really happy in my job. I get on well with most of my colleauges, have a really good boss and enjoy what I actually do (supporting psychology research).

The only downfall is that im on a 6 month contract which is about to be renewed for the third time. That alone is the only reason Im looking to change jobs - what a scary task..!

Being the world class international stud muffin that I am its a great life and job...

*wakes*

Sorry... what was the question?

Nah, I wouldn't say happy in it, but the work is good and I know it well, as I should after 15 years. Bugger its been that long...

I still moan, it helps, but the main advantage I have is, that at finishing up time on the dot I don't think about it any more. Don't even care, switching off is the true art of a happy worker.

Shh don't tell anyone but sometimes I switch off even when I'm in the office.

I'm reasonably happy with my job, but I've just rediscovered computer graphics and animation, which is what I originally trained to do, but have never worked in. I did an M.Sc. in it, nearly 20 years ago, so I've got a good understanding of the concepts. I've love to set up a small business where I can work from home, but I'm not yet sure if I could make it financially viable, and the pay cut would be enormous. I've got a secure job that pays very well, so I'm not very willing to give it up just yet.

That is one of the wisest things I have ever heard. Too many people just can't do that. I listen to some of my mates in the pub on a Friday night and all they do is moan about the previous week. For years though, they all thought I lied about having a job because I never spoke about it. Once I walked out of the office door in the evening, as far as I was concerned, the place didn't even exist until I returned the following day.

Now however, I love my work but I still don't think about it unless I'm actually doing it.
