Default getting knee down question - (now done pic page 3)

only been riding for about 2 months but had a good ride out today in the sun and on the last roundabout (turning right) i thought i would give it a go,

all went ok but no knee down but alot of footpeg scraping and boot tounching floor action which was not ideal,

any ideas?

need to hang off bike more? stick out knee more?

also did my first wheelie today over a small bump whilst accelerating hard in 2nd felt like it stayed up for about 5 secs, made me smile, in relality the wheel was probably 1 inch off the floot but heh it felt good

Where on your boot is scraped. Get toes on pegs out of way so toeslider will touch down before peg.

Make sure the balls of your feet are on the pegs, twist your body round about 20-30 degrees or so as this pushes your knee out and forces you to look where you're going, drop your elbow and shoulder down and stick one bum cheek off the side of the bike. Push on your opposite foot and build up some tyre temperature by lapping a roundabout a few times; then accelerate more and more (don't go round more than about 4 or 5 times in a row, it gets quite dizzy and very tiring). Eventually you'll get it down

Your head should be about where your mirror is but looking round the corner, you'll find you have to look straight upwards as if you'd be looking at the ceiling if you were sat down.

I was following someone today who was squirming all over the bike and waving his knees at the corners. Does it actually help you go faster, or does it just make you look like you need the loo?

It will slow you down on the road because it takes attention away from your usual cornering procedure. However I do it because it it helps my track riding more specifically judging lean angle hence ammount of traction, corner entry speed, ammount of throttle on exit etc.

Not when you don't need to think about everything it doesn't.

Yes to start with you may be slower as you're thinking about doing something different but once you get used to it and it becomes natural you'll be quicker.

I have three riding styles depending on speed, 'bimble', 'road' and 'track', all of which I'll hang off (well not always when bimbling) but differ in by how much.

Not that much of a need on the road to be fair......if your scraping your pegs on the road then it will end in disaster in my opinion. Once the pegs are down there not much left, and it only takes a slight bit of overbanding or a stone or slight bump and your down on your ****.

Unless I really know a road its unlikely I would ever scrape a knee.

Similar to Mr druidI have 4 levels of riding concentration.

Bimble, Road, Fast Road and track......even when in fast road mood I would be unlikely to scrap the knee but still be moving about all over the place on the bike, track though its scraping all the time without thinking about it....sometimes its even a case of crap I surely cant be that cranked over.

You sound like you clearly need to be hanging off a **** load more though.

I say leave getting your knee down for the track. So that you look good for the camera.

I don't ever on the road. Hell in the last 40k (on my VFR) I've only touched a peg (well hero blob) down twice. Seriously, far better to keep that kind of stuff on the track.

I thought about that some more and I have 4 'speeds' (pretty much the same as yours) but 3 'styles'.

My "crap I surely cant be that cranked over" moment was on an NC35 when I realised that despite being hung right the way off not only was the peg grinding away (and folding up) but the sidestand bracket was scraping. That's when I backed off a touch before I crashed my wifes bike....

If the pegs are touching down and your knee isn't you're not hanging off enough. I mean look just how far my pegs are away from the ground here yet knee down.
