Default Silent exhaust

Hi I'm new to my SV650s and I was wondering if I may ask two questions about the bike.
1 I'm looking for an exhaust that is silent. can anyone suggest one. The reason for this is because I work nights and come home early in the morning and the residents have started to complain that the bike is very loud.
Also I get some white smoke from the bike when I first start it up. Once it is warm the bikes ok, but I would like to know the most likely cause for this please. I'm completely new to this bike (my other is a Honda CBR600) so I appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Hi, firstly, welcome to the madhouse!!

Now that's out of the way, silent exhaust? Traffic won't hear you, they rarely see you, so I would personally just put up with the complaints, or aim for a quiet exhaust (and a very loud horn!! ) rather than a silent one.

The stock exhaust is pretty damn quiet, but costs an arm & a leg, though you can buy DBKillers for aftermarket exhausts which reduce volume a fair amount.

Also, the white smoke, chances are that it's just condensation in the exhaust being turned to steam - unless it goes on for a prolonged period. Basically, once the bike is warmed up, it should be clear. If it's not, then you may have issues, but you're new to the .Org, and I don't want to scare you yet.

A stock can isn't that loud( if thats what you've got). Your neighbours aren't very nice complaining are they. A silent one wouldn't be very safe on the roads as some numpty in car might not hear you coming one day...if you get my drift.

At the moment its a little colder out, so a little smoke out of the exhaust when you start her up isn't uncommon, its perhaps nothing to worry about

Welcome to the site btw, get yourself into idle banter and introduce yourself

How much do you like your neighbours

Seriously you have a few choices.

1. As said above re-fit standard can. Have a look on ebay they go for very little money.
2. Stick a DB killer in your current can.
3. Try and find a baffle for your current can.

Alternatively can you not push your bike a little way away from your house or the complaining neighbours house and then start it up.

Also put your lid etc on and then start it and ride it away ASAP so its not loud for very long.

As for the white smoke, its just water vapour and as long as it stays white and disappears very quickly its nothing to worry about. Blue smoke is what you want to be worrying about.

Loud cans dont save lives. Proper Observation, having an escape route in mind and riding defensively is what saves lives. Riding around with a loud can on, under the pretext of "well its loud the car drivers will hear me" is a dangerous strategy IMHO.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I get the idea about loud cans and car users, but as fizzwheel says planning is everything.
I personally love the sound of the sv650.... it's a mean toy and I'm glad I've got one. What I might do is get a standard cam for commuting and put the old one back on for weekends.
@Sottondan I'll let you know what I decide to do.
BTW this is a great forum and very helpful and welcoming members, Thanks

Or get a quill can, if you dont labour the engine they stay quiet, but as revs rise the valve opens and they get noiser.

just give your neighbours earplugs...much cheaper and less faff than getting a standard can and swapping it
