Ok, as the title says, I know Im an idiot for doing it, but, last night was the first time I filled up my new bike with petrol. As I was filling up the pump kept clicking to say that the tank was full, however I knew that it couldnt be as I had only put £5.00 in and the dealer said that when he gave it to me it 7 litrtes in it, so......... I decided to pull the nozel out a bit (and I think most of you will know where im going with this!). So my question is..... Will the spilt petrol do any damage to the bike anywhere, is there any particullar places on the bike that I should definitely be cleaning especially well?
Cheers for any advice. Andy P.S. Please be kind with the pi$$ taking as I already felt incredibly embarrassed on the forecort! ![]() |

Dont worry about it to much, Petrol evaporates quickly so there wont be much if any left hanging around on the bike. If you're worried just give it a wash with some car shampoo or Muc Off and then a good rinse off.
The only thing its going to attack that I'd be worried about is rubber hoses, but if it didnt get anywhere near those then personally I wouldnt be to worried.

I regularly get the odd splash, next time, try and aim it at the warning stickers, makes 'em easier to get off.

Petrol is generally designed fro inside the tank, not outside
![]() I'd be more woried if I spilled it on me rather than on t'bike. |

Easily done. I once had a slight muscle spasm in my fingers just as I was moving the nozzle to the tank. And the nozzle was so close, it was like when you put your thumb over the end of a hoespipe. It sprayed about half a litre all over me, bike, the floor, the petrol pump... pretty much everywhere.
Once I'd paid, I just rolled the bike to the jetwash and gave it a quick rinse. |
